The Next Generation of Synthetic Closures

Manufacturers are looking toward the aging potential of synthetic closures, with hopes of offering a closure with less gas ingress that can still be easily extracted and reinserted.

For a product that's barely existed for 10 years, it's surprising how far synthetic closures have come. Globally, about 2.5 billion synthetic closures are likely to seal wine bottles this year. Supremecorq chief executive Robert Anderson believes the overall market for synthetic closures is growing at about 20 percent a year, and he expects this figure to double in the next five years.
