Italian Syrah may flourish if it is planted in well-suited areas, can co-exist with terroirs dedicated to local native varieties, and can avoid competition with those varieties.
In 2004 the number of Syrah rooted cuttings sold in Italy was a record 2,100,000 plus some 400,000 purchased directly from France, and overall plantings totaled some 1,500 acres.
