As the electricity crunch in California has reached out and touched the entire West, the on-going Northwest salmon crisis now threatens irrigation in the Walla Walla Valley.Steelhead have became a major concern since that fish was listed as a threatened species in March 1999. Serious water and fish protection issues have converged on the Walla Walla Basin (which straddles Oregon and Washington), including the booming Walla Walla AVA. While these issues didn't just crop up suddenly, a critical mass of activity collected and players began work to try to resolve the issues late this fall.
