Removing leaves from around the fruit zone has become an increasingly popular vineyard farming practice. The primary reason is to get better air flow and light penetration in the fruit zone. This helps ripen the grapes and, with better air flow, reduces the chance that powdery mildew or Botrytis bunch rot might set in.
