Barrel Warehouse Manager:

Overview of Position:

This position supervises and organizes the warehousing of all barrels, the maintenance of empty barrels and topping of all barrels at Laird Family Estate. The role oversees the staging of full and empty barrels for cellar operations. This position is responsible for training and evaluating warehouse and topping staff and ensuring that all warehouse operations comply with LFE’s protocols, safety requirements and government regulations. This person will have direct reports of warehouse forklift drivers, barrel maintenance personnel and topping crews.

Primary Warehouse Responsibilities:
• Working with Production Managers and Cellar Master, schedule and organize the staging of full and empty barrels for cellar operations per the daily schedule.
• Use barrel lists and client work requests to organize staff to set up barrel jobs.
• Schedule all topping, email inventories to clients, and receive instructions.
• Ensure work orders are written for topping crew and supervise topping work.
• Responsible for receiving and shipping out clients’ barrels. Ensure that barrels and racks are marked correctly.
• Organize the receiving of new barrels before harvest, working with the client, barrel warehouses and barrel producers.
• Oversee numbering of all incoming barrels, collaborating with Production Coordinator.
• Plan and oversee client barrel locations in the cellar. Maintain barrel maps, monthly location spreadsheet, and ensure all rows are mapped and current.
• Set up and maintain the organization of the Harvest Warm Room, working with Lab to rotate barrels out of warm room when fermentation is finished.
• Maintain empty barrel rack inventory and report monthly to Compliance Director.
• Participate in annual Physical Inventory, counting and verifying barrels and kegs.
• Schedule and oversee Monthly/Quarterly empty barrel maintenance of rehydration and SO2 gassing.
• Receive deliveries in Shipping and Receiving and distribute to recipient.
• Stage and organize empty bins, portable tanks and other winery equipment.
• Obey all safety regulations and ensure correct PPE is used by staff.
• Open and close production areas as needed.
• Perform other tasks as required.
• Work in a way that maintains LFE sanitation standards and the cleanliness and organization of the cellar. Be a cooperative, courteous and committed member of the Laird Family Estate team.




Harvest responsibilities:
• Act as a Cellar Supervisor to organize and sign off on pumpovers
• Help unload and stage grapes, transport bins to crusher or press.
• Drive forklift or supervise staff as needed.
• Act as Weighmaster for grape receival.
• Organize the storage and shipping out of macrobins after harvest.
• Work overtime as required and approved by supervisor.
• Work cooperatively with Cellar Master and Production Managers.
• Help all departments as needed or directed by your supervisor.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Train and supervise forklift operators, warehouse crew and topping crews.
• Prepare and deliver annual performance evaluations of warehouse staff.
• Mentor team members to grow professionally and develop their skills.


Qualifications:
• High school graduate. Associates or Bachelor degree a plus.
• 10 years of experience working in a barrel cellar.
• Supervisory experience of multiple staff members.
• Certified and skilled Forklift driver. (Able to pass LFE Forklift Certification tests.)
• Good communicator and team player.
• Proactive, self-motivated and detail oriented.
• Proficient with MS Office and Excel programs, and able to create and maintain spreadsheets.
• Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Able to perform basic arithmetic.
• Able to fill out Bills of Lading and other paperwork completely and correctly.
• Valid CA driver’s license.
• Able to work overtime and weekends as required.


Physical Demands:
• Able to lift 50 lbs.
• Able to work with SO2 gas and be able to be fitted for a respirator.
• Able to stand, sit or walk for extended periods, reach with arms and hands, walk upstairs, kneel, stoop, crouch and crawl.
