Heart and Hands Wine Company is seeking a Cellar Assistant for a ~40 hours/week position. We are a small boutique winery in the Finger Lakes with a focus on Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Chardonnay. Because we are a small operation, this is a very hands-on position with the opportunity to participate in a variety of tasks.
Cellar Assistant Position Responsibilities include:
• Equipment Cleaning
• Bottling and Packaging (Racking, filtering, equipment sanitation, bottling/labeling)
• Topping up Barrels
• Basic Lab analysis and monitoring of wines and grape samples
• Wine/must movement
• General Winery clean up
During Harvest Season, additional responsibilities include:
• Equipment Cleaning and Sanitation
• Wine/must movements
• Additions to wines/musts
• Punch Downs & Pumpovers
• Barrel Prep / Filling
• Fermentation monitoring / Juice analysis (Brix, pH, TA, VA),
Because we are a very small operation, all staff members are asked to flex between different positions, during peak seasons. Additional responsibilities may include:
• Seasonal Vineyard Tasks, Collecting field samples, Assisting with harvest picking
• Facility Upkeep
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates should demonstrate a passion for premium wine production, good communication skills, attention to detail and a strong work ethic
- Candidates must be able to physically perform all cellar duties related to harvest, vineyard management, and cellar work
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs and work extended hours in a physically demanding environment
- Must be able to perform work duties in and outdoors
- Must be able to work in various temperature conditions, with moderate noise levels
- Valid Driver’s License required
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Ability to accurately calculate figures
- Creative, flexible, and innovative team player
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
- A minimum of a 2-year degree in Enology or Viticulture or 2 years of wine production/vineyard experience
