Tasting Room General Manager

This is a unique opportunity to work at a small, premium winery in Oakland, CA. Côte West is an urban winery that produces about 1,500 cases annually with fruit from long-standing grower relationships throughout (mostly) Sonoma. We work with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Counoise, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Carignan, Zinfandel, and Cabernet Sauvignon. We make rosé, red, white, Pétillant Naturel (sparkling), and an orange wine.

You will work closely with the winemaker and owner of Côte West and will get experience learning about many aspects of running a small winery beyond the tasting room.

Responsibilities:

+ Manage tasting room: Create staffing schedules; plan and print menus; create marketing collateral; manage food strategy and operations

+ Manage Côte West events: Manage all aspects of 1st party events, including conceptualizing recurring events (eg club member pick-up parties, live music, ‘Cyclist Sundays’ etc.); create and execute marketing plan for events; ensure smooth end-to-end operations of events

+ Direct private events: drive marketing, sales, and execution of private and corporate events at the winery

+ New business development: Create partnerships with local businesses and organizations to pursue unique sales opportunities.

+ Support wine club management: communicate with club members around club perks and shipments

+ Marketing: Manage organic and paid listings on Google Maps, Yelp, TripAdvisor, NextDoor, and WineSearcher


What does success look like?

+ Tasting room visits increase
+ Tasting room sales per visit and club member signups increase
+ Happy and retained club members
+ Regular schedule of well-attended recurring 1st party and private events
+ Smooth tasting room operations and happy tasting room staff


Hours

20-30 hours per week, including working at least one tasting room shift per weekend. With advanced planning, we can accommodate time off so that you still have some weekends free.


Qualifications:
Professional, positive demeanor, knowledge of wine
Ability to connect with people through wine
Naturally dynamic sales skills with the ability to meet personal and team goals
Ability to conduct tours, host groups, and provide educational experience
Computer proficiency
Creative problem solver who can take direction but also work independently and is comfortable wearing different hats.
Must be 21 years of age
Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis
Ability to work weekends, and occasional evenings (though evening availability is not required)

Experience in the restaurant or wine industry is required.

This is a part time job. Benefits negotiable.
